Ruse's urban waterfront faces the Danube and forms the river edge of Bulgaria's principal Danube city. Ruse was the base of Bulgaria's first navigation company and an early national Danube fleet. The city is associated with the historic Ruse–Vidin public passenger route and the Ruse–Giurgiu railway ferry. The waterfront provides views across the Danube toward Romania and connects the city's central area with its river-transport history.
