The institution operates several historic properties, including the Rayna Knyaginya, Dudekov, Tutev and Lekov house museums. The Panagyurishte Gold Treasure was found on 8 December 1949 by the Deykov brothers during excavation work at a tile factory. The treasure is a 6.164-kilogram ceremonial gold set of nine vessels dated to the late 4th or early 3rd century BCE; the museum's own history notes that the original was transferred away from Panagyurishte, so visitors should not assume it is locally displayed.
