This compact escape begins at Boyana Church, where a small medieval interior holds one of Bulgaria's most important ensembles of wall paintings. From the city edge, the day changes character quickly: the route to Boyana Waterfall climbs through Vitosha forest on a real mountain trail, not a landscaped promenade. In spring the water is at its most forceful, while autumn brings quieter paths and deep colour. Finish at Golden Bridges, a broad river of rounded stone blocks below the spruce forest. The three stops reveal why Vitosha works so well as Sofia's local wilderness—culture, strenuous walking and mountain geology fit into one day without a long transfer.
