About this road trip
Use three days to move from the Rila foothills into the Pirin Mountains without reducing the region to a single ski resort. Sapareva Banya provides an easy first pause around its remarkable hot-water geyser before the longer drive south. Bansko then becomes a practical base: its old town, museums and stone houses give cultural depth, while the national park rises immediately behind it. Reserve the clearest day for Pirin National Park and choose a marked route that matches the season, daylight and current mountain advice. High terrain can remain wintry long after the valley turns green. On the final day, Dobrinishte offers a quieter spa-town rhythm and a connection to the narrow-gauge railway. This itinerary deliberately leaves room to adapt; lift operation, hut access, snow, fire restrictions and mountain roads can all alter a plan. Use regulated thermal facilities, verify conditions locally, and never treat the mapped park point as a substitute for a chosen trailhead.

Plan safely
- Treat thermal water as scalding and use only regulated bathing facilities.
- Check Pirin trail, fire, snow, lift, hut, and mountain-road status before entering the park.
- Conditions above the tree line change quickly; carry suitable clothing, water, navigation, and emergency capability.
- Winter traffic, snow, and ice can substantially increase driving and parking time.
Check current road conditions and official safety guidance. Conditions can change quickly. For emergencies in Bulgaria, call 112.
